ROCM - using on-board diagnostics to reduce costs

Largest Rail Operating Company needed to move from reactive to proactive maintenance to reduce faults, improve on-time performance and cut costs. They engaged Nomad Digital to deploy ROCM — an on-board diagnostics (OBD) and connectivity solution (using Nomad’s NxT Aware/NxT Sense capabilities) to capture data from HVAC, doors, traction, auxiliary systems, passenger information and GPS positioning.

Nomad Digital delivered a successful POC in nine months, validated data integrity and safety, then rolled ROCM out to the full fleet of over 200 trains with partner support and a contract to provide system support through 2024. The ROCM deployment provided near real‑time alerts and historical analytics to identify patterns (e.g., door faults, timetable delays), enabling proactive maintenance, improved service reliability and passenger experience — making Nomad Digital one of the few suppliers to implement an OBD system at this scale.
