NT Power faced ageing GTO-based power traction converters that were becoming obsolete and costly to maintain. Nomad Digital, as part of an R&D partnership, developed a low-cost upgrade that replaces GTO drives with modern IGBT components on the vehicles’ traction converters to address obsolescence and improve performance.

Nomad Digital’s IGBT upgrade delivered higher reliability and availability, a simpler homologation process, and the ability to "generate" spare parts, plus integrated remote online diagnosis. The solution proved 12.5% energy savings and costs about 25% of the OEM repair price, demonstrating clear operational and financial impact.
