NS operates one of Europe’s densest rail networks—running 5,000 trains a day and carrying around a billion passengers a year—which created a need for faster, more reliable passenger information and onboard internet. Nomad Digital was engaged to deliver wireless connectivity and an onboard passenger information service to improve real‑time distribution of timetable, connection and journey updates as well as to provide internet access for passengers.

Nomad Digital installed cellular‑connected routers, an onboard PIS server that continuously synchronises with the operating centre, and train‑LAN/Wi‑Fi access points that integrate with legacy systems via IP or serial links; screens and existing DAB displays plus a browser landing page deliver live information to smartphones and seats. The deployment increased passenger satisfaction, offers free internet and realtime travel info, and attracts nearly a million unique internet sessions per month, with real‑time monitoring cited as the next opportunity.
