Hitachi needed a remote online condition monitoring capability for its Super Express fleet on the Intercity Express Programme (IEP) to transmit all operational data between train and trackside. Nomad Digital delivered an On Board Server (OBS) solution that uses Nomad Digital’s R3500 router and a blend of multiple 3G networks and WiFi to carry train diagnostics, energy consumption, seat reservation and timetable information through a single gateway.

Nomad Digital’s OBS was developed in close cooperation with the train manufacturer and is being installed in more than 100 trains. The solution gives maintenance and operations teams a unified tool to view, analyse and manage train information, integrates with enterprise software and has improved day-to-day maintenance and operational workflows for Hitachi.
