CrossCountry, the UK’s largest long‑distance train operator carrying 38 million passenger journeys a year, faced the challenge of moving from a paid WiFi model to a free‑to‑all onboard service as part of its Digital Train Project. To meet anticipated higher demand and deliver a new portal and content management system, CrossCountry partnered with Nomad Digital to upgrade connectivity, deploy Nomad’s portal/CMS and implement an automated way to measure on‑board WiFi performance and availability.
Nomad Digital delivered a phased, depot‑based upgrade across HST, Voyager and Turbostar fleets, carefully scheduled to avoid any negative impact on train availability, and now provides end‑to‑end service management including first/second/third‑line maintenance and a passenger help desk. By installing Nomad’s portal and automated performance monitoring, the solution gives CrossCountry consistent, measurable visibility of WiFi availability and improved, reliable connectivity for passengers across its network.
