SK Telecom boosts 5G downlink data rates in metropolitan city centers with SRSbased Beamforming

SK Telecom, a leading mobile operator in Korea, faced the challenge of enhancing the performance of its 5G Massive MIMO radios in the dense, high-traffic urban environment of metropolitan city centers. They partnered with vendor Nokia to find a solution to increase downlink data rates and improve the user experience for their subscribers.

Nokia implemented its SRS-based Beamforming software feature on existing AirScale Osprey 64 radios. This solution resulted in a greater than 20% increase in average throughput in mid-cell conditions and enabled 39% more users to enjoy data rates above 1.2 Gbps. Based on these positive results, Nokia's solution was approved for a country-wide mass roll-out across SK Telecom's network.
