Case Study: OTE Group achieves world-record optical transmission over ultra long distances with Nokia

A Nokia Case Study

Preview of the OTE Group Case Study

Nokia and OTE Group set dual world-record optical transmission rates over ultra long distances

Nokia collaborated with OTE Group, a member of Deutsche Telekom, to enhance the performance of its national optical transport network. The challenge was to increase the capacity and efficiency of the dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) network connecting IP Core data centers in Greece.

Using its 1830 PSI-M solution equipped with the sixth-generation PSE-6s technology, Nokia enabled OTE Group to set new world records for optical transmission. The solution achieved speeds of 800Gbps over 2,580 km and 900Gbps over 1,290 km in a live network, boosting total fiber capacity to 25.6 Tbps. Nokia's technology also increased spectrum utilization and reduced energy consumption per bit by 40%, significantly minimizing the network's carbon footprint.
