Case Study: TPG Telecom accelerates Australia-wide 5G rollout with Nokia

A Nokia Case Study

Preview of the TPG Telecom Case Study

How Yago Lopez is pioneering 5G innovation across Australia despite a complex merger, technological challenges and a pandemic

TPG Telecom, a major Australian telecommunications provider, faced the immense challenge of rolling out a new 5G network after its primary equipment supplier was banned due to government regulations. This forced a complete strategic rethink during a complex company merger and a global pandemic, all while the company was lagging significantly behind its competitors. To overcome this, they partnered with vendor Nokia to implement a state-of-the-art solution and close the gap.

The solution involved deploying Nokia's technology, including its AirScale Macro Remote Radio Heads and a unique triple low band radio unit, to build a new greenfield 5G Standalone Access network. This partnership, treated as an extension of TPG's own team, fostered innovation and led to a record-fast rollout. As a result, TPG Telecom achieved 85% 5G population coverage in Australia's top ten cities by October 2021, surpassing competitors and establishing itself as a leader with new enterprise business opportunities.
