du, a telecommunications provider in the UAE with nearly 7 million subscribers, faced the challenge of providing high-capacity 5G coverage and multi-gigabit data speeds to users in high-traffic commercial areas like shopping malls and event venues. To meet this demand, they partnered with vendor Nokia to maximize the potential of their 200 MHz of mid-band spectrum.

Nokia implemented its 5G Carrier Aggregation software and AirScale radio access portfolio, including both indoor access points and massive MIMO outdoor units. This solution allowed du to aggregate two component carriers, which more than doubled the network's throughput. The results included peak 5G data rates exceeding 2.4 Gbps on commercial smartphones, enabling du to offer unlimited data packages to its subscribers.
