Walgreens, the world’s largest drug retail chain with 13,100 stores and a 30,000 sq ft primary data center (plus 10,000 sq ft of colocation), struggled with an “eclectic” mix of old and new technology and relied on a homegrown database and spreadsheets. That approach made it hard to get reliable metrics, track SLAs and MACs (moves, adds and changes), and deploy new assets quickly — all while managing power, cooling and capacity without adding staff.
