Oklahoma Electric Cooperative connects nearly 40,000 fiber customers in under five years with NISC

Oklahoma Electric Cooperative (OEC) faced a challenge common to rural America: its members either lacked reliable internet access or paid exorbitant fees for poor service. To fulfill this critical need and align with its 85-year mission of providing accessible services, OEC undertook a massive project to build a fiber broadband network from the ground up. They partnered with vendor NISC and utilized its iVUE Connect cloud-based solution to manage the new service.

With NISC's iVUE Connect platform providing seamless provisioning and billing, and its iVUE AppSuite enabling real-time field data access, OEC was able to connect nearly 40,000 customers in under five years. The project's cash flow became positive by mid-2022, and the network has grown to 3,600 miles of fiber. The system's capacity increased from 10-Gbps to 100-Gbps, and OEC continues to add 30-40 new accounts every day, profoundly impacting rural connectivity in central Oklahoma.
