Case Study: Cumberland Electric Membership Corporation connects members with broadband services using NISC

A NISC Case Study

Cumberland Electric Membership Corporation launches 5,000-mile fiber build with NISC

Cumberland Electric Membership Corporation (CEMC), a Tennessee-based electric co-op, sought to fulfill a critical need for high-speed internet access in its rural service area. With the support of its technology partner, NISC, CEMC launched a new not-for-profit subsidiary, Cumberland Connect, to deploy a fiber-to-the-home network. The challenge was to build and manage this major new utility service efficiently while navigating complications presented by the COVID-19 pandemic.

NISC implemented its iVUE Connect solution to provide a unified platform for handling both electric and broadband customer service and billing. This cloud-based system allowed CEMC's staff to manage service orders efficiently and complete necessary training virtually. Utilizing NISC's solutions, including LeadAgent for targeted member communication and Automated Mailroom Services for customized mailings, CEMC successfully launched its $197 million broadband project to connect its members.
