The Food Standards Agency, the UK government body responsible for food safety in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, needed to collect consistent, timely data from about 200 abattoirs to monitor hygiene, animal welfare and safety. Their previous spreadsheet-based process was slow, error-prone and labor-intensive, delaying reports and manual validation and preventing timely intervention.

By deploying Nintex K2 (now Nintex K2 Cloud) with SmartForms and about 30 automated apps, the agency automated consolidation of some 200 spreadsheets, producing reports in hours instead of weeks, improving data accuracy and enabling audits to be published as Open Data. The move freed up IT resources, allowed migration to the cloud, and redeployed eight staff into higher-value roles while opening the door to more process improvements.
