A Canadian statutory agency with 3,500 employees across 15 offices needed an automated way to manage safe returns to the workplace and capture when, where and why staff were onsite to build a data-driven hybrid work model after a pandemic-driven shift to remote work.
Using existing K2 SmartForms and workflow integrated with Microsoft SQL Server and Power BI, the agency deployed a VPN-accessible, Active Directory–prepopulated return-to-office form with health checks and approval workflows. The MVP was ready in one month at about 75% less cost than an OTS or in-house build; analytics showed roughly 90% of staff can work from home (and are 10–15% more productive), enabling a rotating hybrid model, optimized facilities use, and the option to right‑size assets.
