City of Garland builds a community of citizen developers

The City of Garland, Texas — a municipality of more than 240,000 residents with 45 business units — needed a way for nontechnical staff to automate processes, reduce paperwork, and improve tracking and service delivery across departments. The challenge was to provide a no-code solution that business users could adopt citywide without heavy IT involvement.

Garland’s IT team implemented the Nintex Platform on SharePoint with help and training from partner DataBank, using Nintex Workflow, Forms, Process Intelligence and Mobile Apps. Empowering business users to build their own automations created a community of “citizen developers,” increased visibility and tracking, saved an estimated $4M, and improved government services while freeing staff to focus on core duties.
