University of Cologne - Customer Case Study

The University of Cologne’s AG Neuroimaging and Neuroengineering of Experimental Strokes, led by Dr. Markus Aswendt, faced growing preclinical research data management problems: experiments were recorded by hand or in Word/Excel, which was inefficient, error-prone and insufficiently protected. With no suitable commercial scientific software and limited resources for in‑house development, the group adopted the low‑code database Ninox.

Using Ninox, Dr. Aswendt developed a custom, web‑based solution with experiment-specific forms, centralized backups, visual analytics, automated reminders and fine-grained user rights (including blinding), accessible across devices. The Ninox implementation centralized all data, doubled team efficiency, supports roughly 2,500 data entries per year for a 10‑member team, and materially improved the reliability, accuracy and transparency of research documentation.
