No Depression, the longtime "Roots" and Americana music magazine led by Kyla Fairchild, faced a collapsing print business model and shrinking ad revenues and distribution. In 2009 Fairchild relaunched the brand as a community-driven website using NING's platform to create a sustainable online content and community hub.
Using NING's social publishing tools—member blogs, activity feed, moderation and curation—No Depression crowdsources content, highlights the best pieces in its homepage and twice-weekly newsletter, and promotes contributors to build engagement. The result: 25,219 members, about 145,000 unique visits per month, 34,000 Facebook fans and 18,000 Twitter followers, and a profitable, sustainable operation—proof that NING helped the heritage brand evolve and expand its reach online.
