My Modern Metropolis, founded by Alice Yoo, is a Ning Network community blog where artists, trendspotters and design lovers share art, design and photography. Hosted on NING, the site’s challenge was turning large visitor traffic into active members by improving onboarding, fostering participation, and recognizing contributors to build trust and sustained engagement.

Using NING, My Modern Metropolis adopted hands-on onboarding (personal welcomes, a “say hello” intro link), daily engagement across forums and blogs, a Rock Star Bloggers leaderboard, Met Member Spotlight posts and admin roles for core contributors. Those steps generated phenomenal feedback—new members frequently respond to welcomes and many longtime lurkers convert to sign-ups—and produced a measurable “huge spike” in member-written blog posts after the Rock Star Bloggers feature, boosting contributor activity on NING.
