Nimbix Helps Idex Biometrics Accelerate Development of Fingerprint Sensors That Enable Next-generation Biometric Authentication for Payment Cards

IDEX Biometrics, a leading provider of fingerprint identification and authentication technologies for smart cards, needed a faster way to develop its off-chip capacitive fingerprint sensor. Its simulation-based design process was essential for right-first-time development, but each run could take around 70 hours and extensive parametric sweeps would have required costly in-house HPC infrastructure.

By partnering with Nimbix and using the Nimbix Cloud, IDEX Biometrics gained access to multiple parallel cloud-based workstations for ANSYS-driven electromagnetic and mechanical simulations. The solution gave the team the equivalent of four HPC workstations, increased available compute resources by an order of magnitude, and cut new sensor design turnaround to about one week, helping IDEX bring products to market faster with greater confidence.
