Boyd Corporation Uses Jarvice™ and the Nimbix Cloud to Accelerate Design of Osteocool™, a Leading Rf Ablation Probe for Treating Painful Bone Tumors

Boyd Corporation, working with Medtronic on the OsteoCool™ RF Ablation system, needed to rapidly evaluate many probe design and cooling configurations for a highly sensitive medical device. Because physical probes were unavailable and each electromagnetic simulation involved 30 to 60 million mesh elements, the team faced long run times, limited local software licenses, and tight project deadlines. To overcome these constraints, Boyd turned to Nimbix and its JARVICE-powered Nimbix Cloud for high-performance simulation support.

Using Nimbix Cloud and JARVICE, Boyd ran EM simulations in hours instead of days and could execute multiple projects simultaneously, accelerating design validation and reducing time to market. Nimbix also provided license access and hands-on support to get the team running quickly. As a result, Medtronic was able to design and build the optimal OsteoCool™ probe solution in just six months, and the system has since treated more than 10,000 cases.
