Mütter Museum creates an immersive Civil War interactive for its 150th anniversary with Night Kitchen Interactive

Night Kitchen Interactive collaborated with the Mütter Museum to create a compelling and historically accurate in-gallery experience for their exhibition, Broken Bodies, Suffering Spirits. The challenge was to provide visitors with a deeper, more visceral understanding of the physical injuries and emotional trauma endured by Civil War soldiers.

The solution developed by Night Kitchen Interactive was an immersive digital "pepper's ghost" interactive. Visitors step before a mirror where they see their own limb virtually injured, bandaged, infected, amputated, and fitted with a prosthetic. The result was a huge hit with attendees, including a critical audience of historians at a conference, with some lining up multiple times to repeat the experience. The museum's former director noted that the final interactive exceeded their expectations.
