Streamlining Processes to Solve Crimes and Close Cases Faster

British Transport Police (BTP), the national rail police force for England, Scotland and Wales, faced slow, manual processes for obtaining critical evidence — about 50,000 CCTV requests a year from Train Operating Companies and thousands more 999 audio requests from other forces — often delivered on discs, not immediately playable, and at risk of loss and data‑protection fines. To tackle these challenges BTP engaged NICE Public Safety & Justice and deployed NICE Investigate to modernize evidence collection and case building.

Using NICE Investigate and its Business Portal (with integrations such as NicheRMS), requests are now sent and received electronically, footage is virus‑checked, automatically transcoded to be playable, and 999 calls can be shared directly between forces. NICE Public Safety & Justice’s solution has enabled major time and efficiency savings — today 65% of CCTV is handled through the automated process (with a 90% target), streamlined evidence sharing, reduced data‑loss risk and strengthened digital policing across BTP.
