A NHS Employers Case Study
York Teaching Hospital Foundation Trust worked with NHS Employers to address the challenges of an ageing workforce and a need to attract younger talent into future healthcare roles. The trust wanted to promote job opportunities to a younger audience and help school leavers better understand entry-level careers in the hospital environment.
NHS Employers supported York Teaching Hospital Foundation Trust in piloting a summer placement scheme for 16–18-year-old students, giving them four weeks of paid work experience across departments such as wards, therapies, research and development, estates and HR. The pilot recruited 21 students from four schools, and the feedback was highly positive: every student said they enjoyed the placement, all managers wanted to մասնակցate again, and 93% of students said they would consider working at the trust.
