A NHS Employers Case Study
Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust partnered with NHS Employers to tackle low staff engagement after National Staff Survey results placed the trust in the bottom 20% of acute trusts in the UK. With morale concerns across its sites and only limited insight from earlier listening events, the trust needed a more sustainable, measurable way to understand staff issues and improve patient care.
NHS Employers supported the trust’s development of the quarterly “Go Engage” survey tool, which collects and analyses staff feedback, identifies hotspots, and helps managers act quickly on emerging issues. The approach helped Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust move from the bottom 20% to the top 10% for engagement in 2014 and 2015, reduce Total Serious Harm cases by 86% between 2007/08 and 2014/15, and improve patient satisfaction scores.
