With a large, geographically dispersed staff group and a growing number of retirements, the trust wanted a more consistent approach and earlier engagement with staff about retirement planning.
**NHS Employers** supported the trust with guidance, flexible retirement quick guides, and retirement-focused communications to raise awareness of pension flexibilities as part of the total reward package. The trust expanded pre-retirement workshops, held five each year, and saw strong engagement from staff up to three years before retirement; it also reported a tripling of age retirements and 50 staff using retire-and-return in the last 12 months, alongside more conversations about flexible retirement and workforce planning.
