A NHS Employers Case Study
East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust worked with NHS Employers to address growing concerns around staff mental wellbeing, based on feedback from staff surveys and engagement events. The trust recognised that employees were feeling stressed, wanted better welfare and peer support, and needed help not only after traumatic incidents but also during difficult personal times.
NHS Employers supported EMAS in building a multi-pronged staff wellbeing programme, including the Blue Light Pledge, a Peer to Peer and Pastoral Care Workers network, TRiM support after major incidents, and improved communications and training resources. The initiative has seen strong uptake, with 150 TRiM activations in the first month, 236 staff using the P2P/PCW network in the first quarter, and 1,398 total staff contacts in year one, helping to improve access to support and staff morale.
