The customer, South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, worked with the vendor NHS Employers to increase staff flu vaccination uptake across its eight hospital locations.

The solution implemented with NHS Employers involved recruiting and training over 100 peer vaccinators, or 'flu champions,' from within the trust's own staff. These champions were equipped with vaccination kits, presentation materials, and myth-busting information to deliver the vaccine and promote its importance to their colleagues. This peer-to-peer approach, supported by the occupational health team and senior leadership, instigated a culture change that resulted in a 74.6 per cent vaccination uptake rate for the 2013/14 season.
