South Central Ambulance Service - Customer Case Study

South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust worked with NHS Employers to improve support for its reservists. Despite having a high number of reservists in the organization, the trust had no specific reservist policy, limited formal guidance for managers, and no consistent way to record or support staff who served in the Reserve Forces.

NHS Employers helped South Central Ambulance Service develop a reservist policy, create a military declaration form, secure board support for two weeks’ unpaid leave for annual camp, and apply for Bronze and Silver Employer Recognition Awards through the Armed Services Corporate Covenant. The trust gained positive staff feedback, recorded just over 20 reservist declarations early on, and earned an Employer Recognition Award, strengthening its reputation as a reservist-friendly employer.
