A NHS Employers Case Study
NHS Employers worked with Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust, which was struggling with very low staff flu vaccination uptake among its community-based workforce. In 2009, only 17.9% of eligible staff had taken up the seasonal flu vaccine, and the trust needed a better way to reach staff working across multiple sites.
NHS Employers helped the trust take a more accessible, flexible approach by running vaccination clinics at convenient community locations, partnering with local pharmacies, and backing the effort with strong communications and leadership support. As a result, uptake rose to 53% in 2010/11, with 430 vaccinations delivered through local pharmacies alone, showing a significant improvement in staff participation.
