A NHS Employers Case Study

Recruiting locally for the future

The customer, Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust, sought to address local youth homelessness while also utilizing its disused properties. The trust partnered with the vendor, NHS Employers, to establish the Live and Work apprenticeship programme, aiming to provide a stable foundation for at-risk youth through training and guaranteed interviews.

NHS Employers helped implement a solution involving a partnership with the charity St Basils. This provided apprentices with housing, personal mentoring, and employment support, transforming unused buildings into accommodation. The measurable results were significant, with 27 apprentices supported and 22 recruited into permanent trust roles, with all participants moving into employment, education, or bank work within the health sector.
