Queen Elizabeth Hospital Kings Lynn NHS Trust - Customer Case Study

Queen Elizabeth Hospital Kings Lynn NHS Trust worked with NHS Employers to improve uptake of its seasonal flu vaccination programme among staff. The trust faced a familiar challenge: low participation because drop-in clinics created queues and made it inconvenient for shift workers and busy frontline staff to get vaccinated.

NHS Employers helped the trust focus on flexibility and accessibility, using a mobile vaccination trolley, early-morning and late-night sessions, staggered 15-minute slots, out-of-hours clinics, and strong internal promotion through emails, payslips, posters, and senior leader photo support. This approach increased staff flu vaccination uptake from about 10% in 2006 to around 35% in 2010, and the trust expected further gains as the campaign continued.
