Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, a major NHS employer, sought to better support its employee reservists with their training and potential mobilisation needs. With assistance from NHS Employers and resources from SaBRE, the trust aimed to formalise its support structure to retain valuable staff and integrate the unique skills they gain from military service.
The solution implemented with NHS Employers involved creating a formal public duties leave policy and engaging in initiatives like Uniform to Work Day. NHS Employers' support helped the trust successfully manage approximately 40 reservists over nine years, which culminated in them receiving the prestigious Gold Award from the Defence Employers Recognition Scheme for their outstanding commitment.
