Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Customer Case Study

Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH) is one of the largest employers in the region, serving more than 2.5 million residents. Facing rising staff sickness absence linked to low physical activity, the trust worked with NHS Employers to improve employee wellbeing through a programme focused on getting staff more active and supporting healthier working habits.

NHS Employers helped NUH build a wider Employee Health and Wellbeing Strategy, with strong cross-department partnership working, staff consultation, communications, and regular evaluation. The programme delivered health checks, wellbeing events, stress and mindfulness workshops, and a range of physical activity initiatives, contributing to sickness absence falling to 3.43%, high staff satisfaction, and 71% of staff recommending NUH as a place to work.
