A NHS Employers Case Study

Nottingham CityCare - Customer Case Study

Nottingham CityCare Partnership, supported by NHS Employers, faced growing demand from an ageing population in Nottingham, with many older people living with long-term conditions and high rates of emergency admissions. Its existing urgent care approach struggled to cope with complex crisis situations and to find the right clinician for each patient’s needs.

NHS Employers highlighted CityCare’s introduction of the “holistic worker model,” a workforce development approach that trained urgent care staff across nursing, social care, physiotherapy and occupational therapy competencies up to assistant practitioner level. The result was more joined-up care delivered in a single visit, greater staff confidence, fewer referrals between disciplines, and better use of resources, helping CityCare improve patient outcomes and win an HSJ “Value in Healthcare” award.
