A NHS Employers Case Study
Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust, a provider of mental health and learning disability services, faced the challenge of implementing the new national Care Certificate to ensure its large body of Health Care Support Workers (HCSWs) could demonstrate compassionate, safe, and high-quality care. NHS Employers provided the framework and strategy through its Talent for Care initiative, which the trust adopted as its core guidance.
The solution designed with NHS Employers involved creating a comprehensive programme and a shared portfolio of evidence with a local hospital trust. This included a multi-day induction, a team-based assessment approach using work buddies, and training for assessors. The results saw 53 HCSWs start the programme, with 14 completing it and being celebrated at an awards ceremony. NHS Employers' framework also enabled the trust to develop programmes for temporary and experienced staff, improving consistency and embedding person-centred care.
