Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, a major NHS acute trust, faced significant challenges with low staff morale and poor performance scores, placing them in the bottom 20% of trusts nationally. To address this, they partnered with NHS Employers and utilized the WayFinder online crowdsourcing platform to launch a comprehensive cultural change program called The Leeds Way.
NHS Employers supported the trust in implementing a new staff engagement strategy centered on the extensive use of the WayFinder tool for anonymous employee feedback. This solution drove substantial improvements: staff recommendation scores as a place to work increased from 57% to 68%, the number of key findings in the bottom 20% of trusts dropped from 18 to 4, and the trust saw an 11% increase in staff receiving appraisals, moving them into the top 20% nationally.
