A NHS Employers Case Study
Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust worked to better support its reservist employees while strengthening links with local military medical units. With an out-of-date reserves policy and the need for stronger senior buy-in, the trust wanted a more structured way to recognise reservists’ contribution and improve coordination across the organisation.
NHS Employers helped spotlight the trust’s approach to reservists and employer support, which the trust used to develop a formal Reserves Forces Committee, update HR policy, and expand internal and external promotion of reservist opportunities. The result was stronger collaboration with local units, paid leave provision for training, and recognition of success through the Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award in January 2016, presented at a Number 10 ceremony.
