A NHS Employers Case Study
Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust, one of the largest NHS community health providers in England, needed to improve its end-of-life care service and address gaps identified in a CQC review, including staff training, safety, responsiveness, and leadership. Working with NHS Employers, the trust sought a more flexible approach to end-of-life care training for its dispersed workforce.
NHS Employers supported a blended training solution that included a training and competencies framework, online advanced care planning content developed with hospices and Canterbury Christchurch University, and short face-to-face workshops on communication, symptom management, and DNA CPR. The approach delivered more than 850 training sessions, significantly improved staff confidence, strengthened conversations with patients and families, and helped improve care planning and early end-of-life discussions.
