A NHS Employers Case Study
East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust needed to overhaul its recruitment process for medical consultants, which initially involved a costly plan to use psychometrics. The trust engaged NHS Employers to help implement a more cost-effective, values-based approach that would align with its newly developed organizational values.
NHS Employers worked with the trust to map its values to the General Medical Council's 'Good Medical Practice' guidance, creating a new behavioral framework and interview questions focused on values alongside clinical competence. This solution, implemented in September 2013, successfully modernized the hiring process for consultants and was subsequently rolled out to other staff groups, including nursing and administrative roles.
