A NHS Employers Case Study
Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership Trust, an NHS mental health, learning disability and community health provider, was struggling with high staff sickness absence and wanted to understand how supportive management behaviour could improve wellbeing. Working with NHS Employers, the trust joined a pilot programme focused on training trainers to deliver supportive leadership and management behaviour training.
NHS Employers helped the trust roll out the training as part of its band 7 leadership programme, with 360 feedback built in before attendance to make the sessions more practical and relevant. Since implementation, Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership Trust has delivered 11 additional band 7 programmes and trained around 250 managers, with feedback showing increased self-awareness, reassurance, and better understanding of how leadership behaviour affects teams and workplace culture.
