NHS Employers worked with Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, a large NHS trust treating over 350,000 patients a year and employing more than 3,000 staff. The trust’s challenge was to move its values beyond recruitment and make them genuinely part of everyday behaviour across the organisation, improving patient care, staff engagement and consistency.

NHS Employers supported Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in embedding the values of safe, kind, excellent and respectful through a broad engagement and communication programme, including staff and patient voting, open days, posters, leaflets, Schwartz Rounds, management communication training, awards, and values-based policies and appraisals. The approach helped build ownership and awareness across the trust, and the case study reports improved staff engagement and a higher proportion of staff who would recommend the trust as a place to receive treatment.
