Central and West London NHS Foundation Trust - Customer Case Study

Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust (CNWL) worked with NHS Employers to improve access to apprenticeships and challenge the perception that apprenticeships are only for young people. The trust wanted to strengthen its recruitment approach, engage sceptical managers, and attract a wider range of candidates into its apprenticeship programmes.

NHS Employers supported CNWL in revising recruitment practices, including using a local apprentice provider, advertising roles on NHS Jobs and through Milton Keynes College, and adapting interview questions to better suit younger or less experienced applicants. The new approach helped CNWL recruit around 20 apprentices per year, including an unexpected successful applicant in their 50s, and the trust reported that apprentices were increasingly valued for the skills and experience they brought to the workplace.
