A NHS Employers Case Study
The customer, Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, worked with the vendor NHS Employers to address the challenge of moving away from automatic pay increases and fostering a high-performance culture. The trust needed a new system to link pay progression directly to employee performance and behaviours.
NHS Employers supported the implementation of a new Performance Evaluation Tool (PET) that integrated performance standards and behavioural metrics into the appraisal process. This solution allowed managers to objectively assess staff and determine merit-based pay awards, effectively switching off automatic increments. As a result, managers reported an improvement in handling poor performance, and the trust gained valuable data to shape its talent management strategies.
