Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CUH) needed a better way to recruit hard-to-fill roles such as nurses and allied health professionals. Working with NHS Employers, the trust explored social media recruitment, using LinkedIn alongside Twitter and Facebook to reach both active and passive candidates who were not responding to traditional job boards and publications.

NHS Employers helped CUH implement LinkedIn Recruiter, premium job slots, targeted candidate searches, and direct outreach to potential applicants, with social media used to build employer brand and encourage applications. The approach helped CUH fill several key roles over eight months, including a senior communication manager, operations manager, HR business partner, financial analyst, ward sister, and sonographer, while also improving reach and engagement with suitable candidates.
