A NHS Employers Case Study
Barnet and Chase Farm NHS Hospitals Trust worked with NHS Employers to tackle low compliance and excessive staff time spent on statutory and mandatory training. The trust was stuck at around 60–65% compliance, with only a small proportion of staff using e-learning and significant duplication of training when employees moved roles or departments.
NHS Employers supported the trust in implementing the 5 Point Plan, including tighter training needs analysis, improved compliance reporting via Skills for Health’s WIRED, expanded e-learning, and stronger communication and performance management. As a result, compliance rose to 85%, e-learning usage reached 90% of the workforce, training time fell from over 25 hours to just over eight hours, and the trust saved £750,000 per year while improving quality and safety outcomes.
