A NGINX Case Study
Wix, a cloud-based web development platform serving millions of businesses and users, faced growing operational strain as its microservices-driven environment generated heavy internal “east–west” traffic. A custom, in-house server that managed interservice traffic was increasingly hard to maintain, offered poor visibility and health checks, and required manual configuration changes that slowed deployments.
Wix replaced the legacy system with NGINX Plus as an RPC gateway deployed in HA pairs behind a Layer 4 load balancer, enabling health checks, slow-start, session persistence, and on-the-fly reconfiguration. The move cut downtime and error rates, eliminated cold-start errors, automated configuration (saving tens of hours per month), sped feature rollouts, and paved the way to extend these benefits to user traffic.
