A NGINX Case Study
Warpwire, a Durham, North Carolina–based platform for educational institutions, helps organizations capture, organize, and deliver digital video assets. When a prominent southern university producing 10–20 TB of video per semester needed fine‑grained, secure delivery for class- and course-specific content, single sign‑on and directory access proved too inflexible—so the university engaged Warpwire to solve large‑scale, secure streaming and access-control challenges.
Warpwire deployed NGINX Plus (building on its existing open‑source NGINX) to handle caching, video segmentation, and protocol support (HLS, HDS, RTMP), integrate secure links and time‑limited access, and apply bandwidth limits and load balancing. The solution was configured and deployed in about two weeks, delivering higher performance, easier management, improved scalability and availability, and reduced operational overhead for both Warpwire and the university.
