The Township of Middletown, NJ, a community of just over 65,000 residents, needed a more efficient way to manage a growing volume of Open Public Records Act (OPRA) requests after relying on Excel and email, which made tracking and processing paperwork difficult. To modernize its workflow, the township engaged NextRequest to centralize OPRA management.
NextRequest implemented a hosted OPRA portal with built‑in redaction tools, centralized communications, and reporting features; Middletown logged 719 requests in 2018, added 5,663 documents to the portal, and recorded 6,275 document downloads.
