Case Study: Borrego Solar delivers major airport solar savings with Nextracker

A Nextracker Case Study

Preview of the Borrego Solar Case Study

Nextracker and Borrego Solar Deliver One of Largest Airport-Based Solar Power Plants

Borrego Solar built a 7.9 MWDC solar project at Sacramento International Airport for NRG, facing the challenge of installing a large PV system on public airport land with strict regulatory requirements, soft soil on one site, and asphalt on another. The project needed to maximize energy production while overcoming difficult site conditions and tight construction constraints, using Nextracker’s tracker technology and support.

Nextracker provided local deployment, installation, engineering, and O&M support, including custom foundation solutions, pier installation contingencies, and training for the operations team. The system now produces about 12 million kWh of clean electricity each year, offsets roughly 289,000 metric tons of CO2 over its life, and is expected to save about $850,000 annually under the 25-year PPA.
