Maryland HIE ties disparate systems together statewide

Chesapeake Regional Information System for Our Patients (CRISP), Maryland’s statewide health information exchange serving Maryland and D.C., needed a scalable way to tie together disparate hospital systems and present integrated patient data to providers with fewer steps. The organization partnered with NextGen/Mirth to streamline workflows, reduce clicks and speed access to patient summaries across 53 connected acute care hospitals.

CRISP deployed Mirth Connect and Mirth Results and implemented a REST API for single sign‑on and patient‑context passing, migrating roughly 150 channels ahead of schedule. The integration delivered a single‑screen patient summary, care‑plan lookups via API, and flexible data views for hospitals — driving a fourfold increase in provider usage, faster access to data, and measurable improvements in workflow and patient care.
